Over the past few months, we have been extensively testing different machining techniques on the lower VHR intake manifold to help generate more horsepower for the Nissan 370Z & Infiniti G37.  During our research we baseline tested vehicles prior to having our finalized ported lower intake manifold installed and after, in which we have found that directly installing the intake manifold will not make power until tuning is performed where maximum horsepower can be achieved.  Below are a few photos of the ported lower intake manifold positioned right next to the stock VHR lower intake manifold. 20161011_081520_resized_2 20160921_134500_resized_2 One of the first things that you will notice is the different texture from the stock VHR lower intake manifold, slightly rougher, in that we did not find that any additional power was made with polishing. 20161011_081614_resized  We have port matched and maximized the openings that go to the stock cylinder heads to allow for more volume of air which can relate to additional horsepower when complimented with the correct fueling. 20161011_081544_resized_1   We wanted to ensure that we were going to be able to test this manifold on every single application that is available for the VHR platform from forced induction (supercharger/turbocharger) to naturally aspirated. Test Subject #1 Vehicle: 2010 Nissan 370Z Modifications: Stillen supercharger, Nismo Exhaust, AAM short tails, & Z1 test pipes Fuel: 93 Octane stillensupercharger7psipulley Result:  The lower to midrange horsepower is very similar prior to our ported lower intake manifold, it is once you get above 6500 rpm that the manifold becomes beneficial and allows power to made up to 7800 rpm.  Overall gains on this vehicle were 25 rwhp & 18 ft-lbs of torque at the same boost level of 7.5 psi. *ALL DYNO RUNS WERE COMPLETED IN FOURTH GEAR* Test Subject #2 Vehicle: 2014 Nissan 370Z Modifications: Fast Intentions Twin Turbo Kit, Fast Intentions 3” Exhaust, Water Methanol Kit Fuel: 93 Octane nismolowboostrpm Results:  At a boost level of 7.5 psi, we see horsepower and torque gains from 4000 rpm all the way to redline.   At 7000 rpm, there was a gain of 29 rwhp and 21 ft-lbs of torque and a resolution to the large drop off that is noticed on the stock lower intake manifold. *ALL DYNO RUNS WERE COMPLETED IN FOURTH GEAR* *Boost pressure was increased in the next test* Medium Boost: nismomediumboost Results:    With an increase of boost pressure now at 11.5 psi, we notice that below 5500 rpm the graph is very similar it is when we go past that rpm range that we see a drastic improvement.  At the same boost level we notice 38 rwhp and 28 ft-lbs of torque at 7000 rpm. *ALL DYNO RUNS WERE COMPLETED IN FOURTH GEAR* Test Subject #3 Vehicle: 2009 Nissan 370Z Modifications: Tim Bell Long Tube Headers, 3” True Dual Exhaust, Stillen Gen 3 Intakes Fuel: 93 Octane timmundynamanifold Results:  Power was lost on the low end and slightly in the midrange, but there were large gains that were made above 7000 rpm.  A loss of 7 rwhp and 10 ft-lbs of torque below 4000 rpms and a gain of 13 rwhp and 9 ft-lbs of torque were seen with our ported lower intake manifold. *ALL DYNO RUNS WERE COMPLETED IN FOURTH GEAR*   Conclusion:                 Thru our testing we saw that the SOHO Motorsports ported VHR lower intake manifold provides both positive and negative gains depending on the application that you are using.  The lower intake manifold is going to benefit the forced induction vehicles far more than the naturally aspirated vehicles, even though there are a number of bolt on products that we did not test together with our lower intake manifold, we still believe that the negative gains that we saw with our test vehicle may be due to the lack of back pressure in the exhaust system.  Overall we wanted to ensure that we provided enough data to allow the end user to make an informed decision in regards to the overall goal that they may be looking to achieve.   Price: SOHO Motorsports VHR Ported Lower Intake Manifold 20161021_091743 $599.99 *OEM Nissan Lower Intake Manifold Gaskets Included* (Lower intake manifold core must be provided during purchase)   Availability: Two Week Turnaround Time (Depending on availability)
