SOHO Motorsports Billet Differential Cover

[et_pb_section bb_built="1"][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text] Over the last few years, the horsepower goals of our clients has increased substantially and at times has exceeded the stock horsepower from the factory by almost five times! With the increase in horsepower, we are discovering weak links in the drive train that need attention and one of those items is the rear differential cover. The stock cast differential cover is an acceptable design for stock or near-stock horsepower levels and normal driving, however this design is not sufficient for a majority of our customers as they drive their Nissan/ Infiniti as they should be driven. In the picture above, you can see the stock cover (top right), the NISMO cover (bottom center), and the SOHO Motorsports Billet Differential cover (top left) that we designed. Improvements were made by Nissan with the design of the NISMO cover which includes cooling fins, additional fluid volume and more material surrounding the mounting stud. However, the NISMO cover is still made out of cast aluminum which is not a very strong material when placed under high stress loads in extreme conditions. Through our research we found that the weakest point of the existing differential covers was the area around the mounting studs where cracks can begin to form on the inside of the cover. This can be seen in the picture below.   When cast aluminum components begin to fail, many companies in the automotive industry turn to 6061 Billet aluminum. Our main focus with this differential cover design was to strengthen the area around the mounting stud. During the design process, we focused heavily on this section of the cover and incorporated a number of reinforcements on the front and inside of the cover along with increasing the overall thickness by .30".
